Making Disciples of Christ by Being Disciples of Christ

It began 15 years ago as a mission to feed the homeless in Zinn Park. Today, it has grown into a fully developed program that serves lunch to over a 100 every Monday and Thursday at the Bridge.

Shelia Borders, Val Morris and their team of 12 to 15 volunteers come early every Monday and Thursday to prepare the meal for the day.  The goal is to provide a hot meal of meat and vegetables along with a cold drink and dessert that will be served to who ever comes to the tables.

People come as early as 11:30 for coffee and cookies.  It is a time to talk to friends and find a table and get ready for the noon sermon presented each week by Ken Ballard.  Lunch is served afterwards.  The program prides itself on the fact that there are no lines to shuffle through and everyone is feed.  Leftovers are offered until everything is gone.

Who comes?
The homeless, elderly, and low-income families.  Adults and children.

Why do they do it?
The motivation is to show people the love of Christ and the realization that examples in the Bible often used food.  Jesus always fed the physical needs first and then feed them spiritually. ( Just think of the 5 loaves and the 2 fish.)  It is this compassion that helps you understand a hungry man can not hear.  Food and kindness can open a man’s heart.

How do they do it?
The program is support 100% through donations.

How can you help:
1. Pray.
2. Volunteer your time.
3. Give.

For more information, you can come by the Bridge on Mondays or Thursdays between 10:00 am and 1:00 pm.  To make a donation, contact the church office at 256-236-5605
